Transactions can post to the wrong accounting period or year after a period-end run if Stock Posting Periods have not been updated, or if an incorrect posting date is entered manually.
⚠️ Warning: Do not use the Reverse button to correct a wrong-period posting. This can post the reversal to the wrong period, compounding the original problem. Always use the negative value transaction method described below.
📌 Note: The steps below apply to the Debtors, Creditors, and Financials ledgers only. If the transaction was processed via Manufacturing Orders, raise a support case with the Manufacturing Orders support team for guidance.
Before following the steps below, confirm the following:
Stock Posting Periods are set correctly in the Stock area of Supply Chain.
Affected users have the correct Future Period Posting permissions set in their Security Profile.
Tip: Use the Transaction Enquiry screen for the affected ledger to identify incorrect items by period and date criteria. You can export these to Excel for reference.
Debtors or Creditors ledger
Raise a negative value transaction of the same type (for example, Invoice) in the incorrect period. Use identical analysis codes for each line that needs correction. This will zero the values from the unwanted period.
Allocate the correcting transaction to the unwanted original.
Raise a positive value transaction of the same type in the required period to repost it correctly.
Sales invoices posted with an incorrect date
If a Debtors invoice is showing a date from a previous period despite appearing to have posted correctly, this is typically a mismatch between the invoice date field and the posting period. Apply the same negative entry and repost process above.
If the discrepancy persists after reposting, raise a support case. Include the following:
The invoice number.
The incorrect date shown.
The expected posting period.
Nominal journals
Enter an exact opposite of the unwanted item in the incorrect period, mirroring the debits and credits for each line based on the nominal accounts they updated. This will zero the values from the unwanted period.
Enter a journal using the original debits and credits into the correct period to recreate it correctly.
VAT journals
Enter a negative value VAT journal of the same type (for example, Debit VAT Journal or Credit VAT Journal) using the same nominal accounts as the original, in the unwanted period.
Repost a positive value VAT journal of the same type into the required period to replace the reversed item.
