Value 'cannot be null' when duplicating database

In some cases, when attempting to duplicate a database within the Supply Chain Administrator, the following error will appear: Value cannot be null. The full error message is Exception Value cannot be null, parameter name database.

This is typically due to one of the following:

  • Not enough space on the drive where the default SQL Server backup folder is located

  • Incorrect permissions on the default SQL Server backup folder

It is recommended that you raise this issue with your own IT team, however, if you have SQL Support from Access, or are on our hosted platform, please raise a new case online and reference the title of this article and please include details of the database needing to be duplicated.

If you are hosted or have SQL support we will do the following checks, if not ask your IT support.

Open SQL Server Management Studio, and log in as the SA user

  1. In the Object Explorer, right click the instance node, select Properties

  2. Select the Database Settings pane, note the path in the Backup field

  3. Check that this path has the read/write permissions on it for the SQL Service account, and that there is sufficient free space on the drive (at least the size of the database is required)
