Overview
You can use the steps below to create a copy of an existing database within your system. This is useful for testing changes or preserving data at a given moment.
To complete this process, you must have:
Access to the Supply Chain Administrator Utility on the SQL server
Admin (SA) credentials
Duplicate the database
Open the Supply Chain Administrator Utility using SA credentials.
Select the Database tab, then click Databases from the top ribbon.
Review the list of databases currently available in your system.
Select the database you want to duplicate, then click Duplicate Database from the top ribbon.
Enter a unique name for the new database when the dialog box opens.
Click OK to start the duplication process.
This step may take a few minutes, depending on the size of the database.
Once complete, the new database appears in the database list.
Apply the unlock to the new database
Select the new database and click Unlock, then Assign to database from the top ribbon.
When the unlock key list opens, select the most recent unlock key by double‑clicking it.
The database is now ready for use.
When logging in to Supply Chain, make sure you select the new database name on the login screen.
Make the test database easy to identify (optional)
To help distinguish the test database from live environments, you may want to change its background colour.
Open System.
Select Company Record.
Go to Settings.
Update the Application background colour.
This step must be completed by a user with admin permissions.
