Numerous errors when users cannot log onto ASC or client screens are operating incorrectly

I have an issue where ASC is not operating correctly or screens are not displaying correctly.
This problem is likely to be caused by the user cache or the window layout becoming corrupted and the problem will occur after ASC has been working perfectly well.
Requires Supply Chain user cache files to be cleared.
Examples :

  • Loading Supply Chain and get exception error System.Exception: Cannot load the Form Configuration File without a valid path to it.

  • Going into Access supply Chain you cannot see any of the non finance options. Sales Orders, Purchasing, Stock etc.

  • When pressing the expand button to view the details of a purchase order we are getting Message incorrect syntax

  • Field Chooser options are not displaying correctly. Database column names being displayed instead of friendly names. Export Options not displaying Email.

  • Logging into Supply Chain and you get the error message box when dropping down to get more details the error message Root element is missing. (XmlException).

  • The Process cannot access a file in 'User'\AppData\Local\Access Accounting Ltd\Dimensions\7.2.2.0 ... because it is being used by another process

  • User is unable to access the Purchase Invoice Register due to the message
The licence for this software doesn't allow Purchase Invoice Register c

  • The user has issue with getting error messages opening Screens

  • The user has loaded in a crystal report and the run button is not showing

Solutions:

  1. Ask the user to log out of ASC reboot their computer and log in again

  2. If you can load in the ASC Client, try a restore window layout - select File, Window Layout, Restore window Layout .

  3. Clear out the local Supply Chain Cache on the users machine.
Get on-site or 3rd party support to follow the instructions below.

The local cache is used to store the users connection details (as shown on the login screen) and any customised views and arranged fields within Forms. Local language settings and cache'd reports saved on the local PC to speed up the report creation process.
The local cache clearance is usually needed when these files have been corrupted by System crashes or problems when the Supply Chain system is trying to save configuration details. Symptoms range from missing options that the user used to have, changes to views and Forms within Supply Chain that can't be explained and various other local PC only issues.

To clear out the local cache perform the following steps (needs local admin rights on the client PC):

  1. Open the Supply Chain application and make a note of all entered details from the login form including those in Options

  2. Ensure that Supply Chain has been closed on the user's machine.

  3. Once these have been noted navigate to the following location on the user's machine: C:\Users\{User Name}\AppData\Local\Access Accounting Ltd\ (you may need to make this folder visible in file explorer, you can also get to it click on window button and type in %temp% you can then work back to that directory)

  4. In here there will be a folder called DimensionsX

  5. Rename this folder by adding '_old' to the end of it.

  6. Open Supply Chain again. The details will be blank as we have made the saved details unavailable. Re-enter the connection details that had been noted in step 1 and login to Supply Chain

  7. Upon logging in a new 'DimensionsX' folder will have been created and pulled through a fresh copy of various files through from the server.

If this doesn't work then try creating a new user profile. If it's a new user they may not have been added by the correct user. Deleting the user in ASC and re-adding them using an ASC user with the equivalent of the SQL sa user (or the sa user) should resolve the issue.
